To
ensure maximum flexibility and cost effectiveness, Edwards Brothers
and EB Journal Services offer complete pre-press services to our
journal customers.
While total circulation dictates the press platform - web, offset
or digital - we recommend PDF files created in compliance with the
PDF/X-1a standard as the preferred method of transporting files.
This industry standard can be used across workflows; facilitates
the transition from ink-on-paper to e-publishing; is readable globally;
and, is far more adaptable than previous formats. And PDF is the
most reliable format for ensuring integrity of information transferred
electronically.
EB supports a wide variety of software in our direct-to-plating
process. QuarkXPress, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe FrameMaker, and Adobe
InDesignCS are all standard desktop publishing software programs
supported onsite by both PC and Macintosh-based systems. EB uses
Adobe-based pre-press software in our computer-to-plate devices,
and one of our employees is on the Adobe consumer product design
advisory team. Our software of first choice is Adobe InDesignCS.
And while we prefer PDF/X-1a files, we can also accept application
and PostScript files via various media.
To further streamline production, EB Journal Services provides
proofs in several ways. Our preference - and the fastest method
- is to post files to our FTP site or if you prefer to your FTP
site. In all instances, and unlike many suppliers, files received
are true post-ripped files that show exactly what will appear on
the plate and printed page. Please remember that your proofs are
your last chance to make alterations before your project goes to
press. To help expedite the process, our in-house staff is available
to assist with any last minute layout or design changes you might
have.
Our goal is to make sure you feel your decision to work with EB
Journal Services was the right one. To ensure thoroughness in preparation
we have put together an Electronic File Checklist document, construction
tools and some tips on how to make your job easier.
Understanding each others requirements and capabilities early in
the production cycle is the key to containing costs, managing schedules
and producing a quality product.
